About This Spot

Stepping into Zakir's Bakery Sweets & Restaurant feels like entering a vibrant corner of Bangladeshi culture nestled in the heart of Paterson. The air carries the comforting aroma of freshly spiced dishes and sweet treats, inviting both familiar faces and curious newcomers alike. There’s a gentle hum of activity here — a place where the rhythm is brisk yet welcoming, marked by a steady stream of locals who appreciate the honest flavors and hearty portions.

This spot strikes a balance between a bustling neighborhood eatery and a community gathering place. While the seating area can get lively with animated conversations and the occasional spirited exchange, many choose to take their flavorful meals to go, making it a hub of both quick bites and shared moments. The atmosphere isn't polished to perfection, but it’s real and unpretentious — where warmth and tradition are on full display.

Food at Zakir’s offers a vivid taste of Bangladesh, with familiar favorites like biryanis that reveal layers of fragrant rice and tender meat, alongside crispy snacks that speak to generations of home cooking. Whether you’re savoring a plate of spicy fish curry or biting into the flaky edges of a freshly baked samosa, the flavors feel rooted in recipe and ritual, comforting in their familiarity and satisfying in their boldness.

The bakery side adds another layer to the experience. Arrayed sweets and pastries bring a gentle sweetness to the day, beautifully balancing the savory with treats that feel as meaningful as the meals themselves. Here, food isn’t just nourishment: it’s a way of connecting with culture, memory, and the simple joy of sharing.

Patrons often find themselves returning not just for the generous servings or the reasonable prices, but for the human moments that unfold — the casual hellos, the quick conversations at the counter, the feeling of belonging to a corner of the city where the pace is set by familiar flavors and friendly faces.

Loved the taste of fresh deshi halal Food, courteous behavior. Indeed a busy store, but fast service. Roadside Parking was easy to manage. The price is very reasonable and a big portion of the serving.

Their food is good, not all but some of them. Atmosphere is not suitable enough I think to seat and eat because some people always seat there and try to speak political talk. Most of the Bengali people I talked they preferred just to take the food not seat.

I visit this place from Queens. My first ever visit in Paterson , New Jersey . I’m surprised price is lower than queens . I spend $30 and get 4 box sweets . And I’m really happy with my purchase. Service was good

Good place to buy cooked Bengali food and sweets. Their items include biryanis, roast chicken, beef and fish dishes. Prices are decent.

Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Food is excellent. Reminds me of Bangladesh town in the Bronx. Vegetable samosa (singhara) needs some salt. Chicken patty (puff) needs more filling (hardly 2 small pieces of chicken in them. Chicken biryani was delicious. Tandoori chicken was good as well. None of them were served with condiments (sad). The best of all is the Chai, it was spot on. Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Upon arrival the cashier didn't greet or welcome, however, the server was welcoming. The server was able to speak in English and Hindi which was nice. He was patient and answered all the questions. On purpose I asked the server to pack different things randomly to see his service and he was impeccable. Good customer service. Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The restaurant is in a sketchy area, not the best of places, however, the restaurant/bakery captured the essence of the area and brought beauty to it. The ambience is very south Asian and reads the area well. Music and clearly labeled menu items with prices would help.
